History of the Metropolitan Furnishings Association

Today the MFA has a history of serving the New York Metropolitan areas home furnishings industry continually through the establishment and mergers of several associations for over 7 decades.

In 1942 the New Jersey began under the name of The Furniture Club and then later known as NJ Furniture Association.  Existing during these years were IHFRA (International Home Furnishings Reps Association) and GNYHFA (Greater New York Home Furnishings Association).  In 1990 NJFA and the local IHFRA chapter merged to be known as the Metropolitan Furnishings Association of New Jersey.  It was twelve years later, in 2012, both the MFA and GNYHFA unified to become the Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association.  In 2020, the current Board of Directors unanimously voted to change the name to The Metropolitan Furnishings Association.

No matter the name, Our Association exists because of its commitment to serve its members, who encompasses retailers, reps, designers, manufacturers, delivery and supplier services.  Membership services extends from legislative lobbing, webinar education, insurance coverages, health programs, social networking and a list of business benefits that make our members successful.
